Baltimore County Pedestrian Accident Kills Man
Baltimore County police have identified a man killed in a pedestrian accident on November 8, 2008 as 39-year-old John Walter Hartwick Jr. the Baltimore Sun reports. Officials say Hartwick was walking south in the 200 block of Eastern Boulevard near Volz Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound Jeep Liberty driven by a 60-year-old Chase woman. Hartwick was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The woman was reportedly uninjured.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 4,641 pedestrians were killed in 2004 as a result of traffic accidents and nearly 68,000 people were injured in pedestrian accidents in the United States. That means one pedestrian is killed every two hours in our country. The NHTSA statistics also reveal that alcohol was involved in nearly half of all fatal pedestrian accidents.
